The Liberal Democrat/Labour cabinet voted to close New Mill library this afternoon. I was gobsmacked by the insensitive, uninterested and downright arrogant attitude of many, but not all, of the cabinet members. Many good people from New Mill took the time off work and school to trek all the way over to Cleckheaton Town Hall to put some compelling, passionate and logical arguments forward for saving their library. This desire to safeguard a much loved and much used frontline community facility was met with irrelevant points scoring history lessons, yawns and smirks. No wonder people are totally fed up with politics. Shame on those cabinet members who failed to consult, engage, listen, be courteous and act in the best interests of those they supposedly represent.
