I thought I’d just repeat my post from May following the latest revelations about MPs’ expenses:
Like everyone I’ve been gobsmacked and appalled by the revelations of MPs’ expenses. I’ve never received a penny in pay, allowances or expenses as a candidate. When I was an Officer an in the RAF we were encouraged to set our own standards and abide by them. In that spirit here are the standards I will apply if I’m elected as your MP:
- I will publish in detail any expense I reclaim while in the pursuit of my parliamentary duties.
- I will never employ any member of my family in my parliamentary office.
- I will live in the constituency (as I do now in the Holme valley) and continue to have my main home among the community I serve.
