School Sportshall Athletics

Jason was delighted to present the trophy at the Sportshall athletics day at the Sports Barn on Leeds Road. The inter-school competition is run by the Pennine School Sports Partnership.

Lindley Juniors (pictured) won the Junior School trophy, while Honley High School went on to win the Senior School trophy.

Christmas Card Competition

Jason thanked the pupils and staff of Wellhouse J&I and Clough Head schools for coming up with the design of his Christmas card this year.

The pupils worked very hard to come up with some lovely imaginative and colourful designs which gave Jason a very difficult job of picking the overall winner. Jason is pictured here with some of the finalists.

Colne Valley Specialist Arts College

Jason was honoured to be the Guest Speaker at the Colne Valley Specialist Arts College Presentation Evening at Huddersfield Town Hall.

The class of 2011 were celebrating the school’s best ever academic results.

Huddersfield Examiner Business Awards 2011

Enterprise and innovation were celebrated at the Huddersfield Examiner Business Awards at the Galpharm Stadium.

Jason was pleased to congratulate some of the local winners including Hinchliffe’s Farm Shop from Netherton, Eric’s Restaurant from Lindley, Hanson Music from Marsden and Young Businessman of the Year David Elliott of Wellhouse Leisure who also picked up the “Make It Huddersfield” award.

Huddersfield Town fan Jason was also proud to see Town Chairman Dean Hoyle pick up the Business Person of the Year.

Standedge Canal Tunnel

Jason unveiled a Red Wheel plaque at Standedge Canal tunnel. The plaque from the Transport Trust honours Standedge for its status as the longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel in the country.

Huddersfield University Students’ Union Awards

Jason joined the Mayor of Kirklees and the Vice Chancellor of Huddersfield University at a glitzy star studded awards ceremony at the Students’ Union yesterday evening.

He was honoured to present the Union Councillor of the Year award to mature student Michelle McHugh.

Kirklees College in Westminster

Former Dewsbury College student Baroness Sayeeda Warsi was presented with an Association of Colleges Gold Award at a ceremony in the Palace of Westminster. The awards highlight the role of further education.

Jason took the opportunity to meet the new Principal of Kirklees College Peter McCann and they discussed the future of Holmfirth Adult Education Centre.

Huddersfield Examiner Community Awards

Jason joined in a night of celebration and emotion at the Galpharm Stadium as local people were honoured for their achievements. Congratulations to all the winners, including:

Neil and Rachael Salmon from Lindley who won the Services to Charity Award for their work with The Joseph Salmon Trust:

Sally-Ann and her son Ben from the Waves Day Care Centre in Slaithwaite who won the Community Project of the Year award:

Holme Valley based poet Simon Armitage picked up the Achievement Award.

Simon’s Dad Peter won the Arts Award for his fundraising efforts with the Marsden based Avalanche Dodgers.

Teenager Reddin Rizgar from Moor End Technology College won the Young Personality of the Year Award.

Eight year old Ben Pogson from Linthwaite had the audience in tears as he picked up the Courage Award. Ben has undergone major heart surgery and now raises for money for the unit that saved his life.

The Honley Show team picked up the gong for Community Event of the Year.

Colne Valley Museum Picks Up Sandford Award

Jason was honoured to join Susan Starr and Sheila Osborn from the Colne Valley Museum as they picked up a Sandford Award.

The Golcar based museum received their award for heritage education at a ceremony held in the Houses of Parliament.
