Holocaust Memorial Day

Friday January 27th will mark the 67th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi concentration and extermination camp which is the site of the largest mass murder in history. Jason signed the Book of Commitment, which has been placed in the House of Commons by the Holocaust Educational Trust, to honour the memory of those who were persecuted and murdered during the Holocaust.

Jason joined 6th formers from Greenhead College on an educational visit to Auschwitz last year. To read more about about that visit, please click here.

In the weeks around Holocaust Memorial Day, thousands of commemorative events will be arranged by schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country to remember the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. For more information, please visit www.het.org.uk.

Organ Donation

Jason joined Huddersfield Town in promoting the Organ Donors Register at Saturday’s game with Oldham. Fans were given information about the register and encouraged to sign up.

Only 29% of the population are currently signed up whilst thousands are waiting for life saving donations. Jason met a Linthwaite man who was given a life saving heart transplant last year.

School Sportshall Athletics

Jason was delighted to present the trophy at the Sportshall athletics day at the Sports Barn on Leeds Road. The inter-school competition is run by the Pennine School Sports Partnership.

Lindley Juniors (pictured) won the Junior School trophy, while Honley High School went on to win the Senior School trophy.

Honley Does Christmas

Jason was proud to compere a fantastic night with Honley’s Musical Community at Honley High School.

The festive fun included performances from the Honley Ladies Choir, Honley Male Voice Choir, St Mary’s Hand Chime Ringers, a solo tuba, the High School ukulele and guitar groups and the Honley Saxophone Choir.

Congratulations to Musical Director Emily Reaves, accompanist John Oldfield, Head of Music at Honley HS Leigh Baker, and everyone else who made it such a special evening.

Birchencliffe Business Forum

Jason joined Tim Kirkhope MEP for an excellent business forum at Briar Court Hotel, Birchencliffe, Huddersfield. There was big agreement that we need trade with the EU but not more bureaucracy and more integration.

Lindley Christmas Fayre

Despite the wintry showers the festive spirit was in full flow at the Lindley Christmas Fayre.

Jason and local campaigner Mark Hemingway enjoyed the evening, with Jason tucking into braised pig’s cheek and creamy mash on offer outside the award winning Eric’s Restaurant. Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark turned on the lights.

It’s Christmas… well nearly

Jason had a busy festive weekend. Friday evening saw the big Christmas Lights switch on in Honley. Congratulations to Ian Gooch and the Holme Valley Business Association for doing the valley proud with the lights in Holmfirth and Honley.

Hundreds braved the squalls to walk round the Honley Christmas street market on Saturday morning with shelter just up the road in Trinity Church for their lovely Christmas Tree Festival.

Then it was Marsden’s turn for their lights switch on with entertainment from the Imbolc fire twirlers. The blue and white Christmas lights in Meltham looked as dazzling as ever on the drive home.

Jason spent an enjoyable Sunday afternoon at the 1940s themed Christmas at Taylors Food Store with a festive performance from Honley Male Voice Choir.

Soggy Saturday

Jason spent a soggy Saturday afternoon enjoying the entertainment at Waves Day Care Centre ahead of the Slaithwaite Christmas lights switch on.

Marsden folk group the Thieving Magpies (pictured) and the Slubbing Billys joined in the festive fun. Jason then spent a wonderful evening at the Diwali Dinner Dance at the Sikh Leisure Centre in Huddersfield.

We Will Remember Them

Jason paid tribute to our service personnel past and present over the weekend. On Armistice Day Jason joined hundreds of veterans and local school children, pictured, at the cenotaph in Greenhead Park.

In his capacity as President of the Royal Air Force Association in Huddersfield, Jason joined RAF veterans and their families for a lunch at the George Hotel. Jason attended Remembrance Day services at Marsden and the Holme Valley Memorial Hospital.
