Wear it Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Jason joined forces with Breast Cancer Campaign to raise awareness of its biggest annual fundraising event, Wear it Pink, which will take place on Friday 28th October this year.

On that day people across the country will be encouraged to wear an item of pink in support of the campaign and to donate £2 to the fund to support breast cancer research. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and around 48,000 new cases are diagnosed every year.

The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice

Jason spent a busy afternoon with volunteers in Lindley’s Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice charity shop as part of Volunteer Week.

The shop welcomes donations of clothes, books, household items, accessories and recyclable goods with the money raised going towards building a new children’s hospice.

Midnight Memory Walk for Kirkwood Hospice

Jason joined nearly 1,000 fellow fundraisers on the Midnight Memory Walk in aid of Kirkwood Hospice. The charity walk from the Galpharm Stadium saw £75,000 pledged to the Hospice on the night.

The charity walkers tucked into bacon butties after completing the walk.

Huddersfield Examiner Community Awards

Jason joined in a night of celebration and emotion at the Galpharm Stadium as local people were honoured for their achievements. Congratulations to all the winners, including:

Neil and Rachael Salmon from Lindley who won the Services to Charity Award for their work with The Joseph Salmon Trust:

Sally-Ann and her son Ben from the Waves Day Care Centre in Slaithwaite who won the Community Project of the Year award:

Holme Valley based poet Simon Armitage picked up the Achievement Award.

Simon’s Dad Peter won the Arts Award for his fundraising efforts with the Marsden based Avalanche Dodgers.

Teenager Reddin Rizgar from Moor End Technology College won the Young Personality of the Year Award.

Eight year old Ben Pogson from Linthwaite had the audience in tears as he picked up the Courage Award. Ben has undergone major heart surgery and now raises for money for the unit that saved his life.

The Honley Show team picked up the gong for Community Event of the Year.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Having just cycled 280 miles from Huddersfield to Brighton to raise £1,750 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the HTFC academy, it was very timely that the YAA helicopter landed next to where Jason held his advice surgery in Lindley at the weekend.

After the casualty had been transferred to a waiting ambulance to go the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Jason went to meet the crew. He praised them for their life saving work and they thanked all of the charity cyclists who between them have raised in excess of £200,000 for the Keep It Up Campaign.

Pedal for Pounds… and Points

Huddersfield Town’s last minute winner at Brighton was the perfect end to our gruelling 280 mile charity bike ride. 170 of us set off from Huddersfield on Wednesday morning for our 3 day charity cycle ride down to the South Coast. With overnight stops at Nottingham, Milton Keynes and Gatwick we have hopefully raised £200,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Huddersfield Town academy.

I’m very stiff and sore today having got back on the supporters’ coach late last night but it was an amazing experience. The team spirit and camaraderie will stay with me forever. I’m so proud to support a football club that has such wonderful fans and does so much for the local community. Let’s hope we can now go on and get promotion.

Huddersfield to Brighton Cycle Ride in Aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and HTAFC Academy

Jason is making his final preparations for the start of the 280 mile cycle ride from Huddersfield to Brighton, which pedals off tomorrow morning. Over 150 cyclists are making the trip to raise cash for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the HTAFC academy.
