Combating Metal Thefts

Jason has raised the issue of metal thefts with the Prime Minister during PMQs in Parliament. You can watch his question on Youtube, here.

He visited J B Schofield and Sons in Linthwaite to hear the views of a local scrap metal merchant. It is his view that the criminals must be punished, not reputable businesses.

Colne Valley Specialist Arts College

Jason was honoured to be the Guest Speaker at the Colne Valley Specialist Arts College Presentation Evening at Huddersfield Town Hall.

The class of 2011 were celebrating the school’s best ever academic results.

Linthwaite Clough School

Jason visited Linthwaite Clough Junior Infant and Early Years School. He was treated to a Taiko drum performance and a dancing display.

Members of the school council also gave Jason a tour of the school, including their impressive new eco-friendly nursery building.

Bat Men

Jason recently flew in to see the Bat Tower in Linthwaite. The new structure by the River Colne has plenty of nooks and crannies to encourage the local bat population to flourish.

We’re very lucky in our part of the world to have such wonderful schools and Jason visited two of them today.

Jason met Headteacher Carol Gormley and year 11 pupils at Colne Valley High School as he saw drama and sports classes in action.

He then joined the new Headteacher Chris Sylge and prefects at Honley High School as he opened their new ICT suite.

Jason chatted with year 11 pupils using the new kit for their geography projects.

Many people say to me “we don’t make things in the UK anymore”. Well we do. We’re still the 6th biggest manufacturer in the world and this week I’ve been to visit 3 fantastic local companies who are making things.

Thornton & Ross Pharmaceuticals

Greenworld Biodiesel

TEV Ltd

Thornton & Ross are one of the UK’s largest makers of over the counter medicines. The family owned business began in 1922 and employ 400 people in Linthwaite. Greenworld Biodiesel are turning chip fat into a clean fuel at their site in Slaithwaite. TEV Ltd in Brighouse are designing and making the latest high tech environmentally friendly air source heat pumps.

Local Issues

I’ve had another busy and fascinating week. I’ve been out and about in Golcar, Linthwaite, Marsden, Slaithwaite, Netherton, Holmfirth, Lindley, Outlane, Holmbridge and of course Honley. On Thursday I met pensioners rightly angry at cuts to bus services which are a vital lifeline for them to local shops and the local hospital. The residents didn’t even know they were losing the services. Myself and Lindley Cllr Tony Brice are fighting all the way, with the backing of Metro, to get First to reinstate the axed services.
