Northern Hub Approved

Jason has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a £9.4bn package of investment to improve Britain’s railways, including £800m for the full delivery of the Northern Hub Project. The project could add up to 30,000 new jobs and be worth £4.2bn to the northern economy. By 2019 it will provide for an additional 5,100 passengers into Leeds at peaktime.

There will be investment for Huddersfield station and a new £20m fund for new stations which Jason hopes will see a bid from the Milnsbridge new station group.

Jason said, “This is great news for the North. It means faster travel, longer platforms, easier commutes and it will not affect local stopping services. I led a debate on it in Parliament in January which was very well attended by Members from both sides of the House, so I’m very pleased that the Government has responded to this support with the biggest investment in our railways since the Victorian era.”

Jason is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Rail in the North.
