Save Butterley Spillway

Save Butterley Spillway

Jason spoke in the House of Commons about the campaign to Save Butterley Spillway in Marsden. The stunning stepped stone spillway was built by the Victorians between 1891 and 1906 and is a unique example of their engineering skill.

Yorkshire Water is poised to submit plans to rip out this stone-built Grade II Listed spillway and replace it with a concrete version.

Jason has joined local residents and heritage campaigners in the Save Butterley Spillway campaign group. The group is urging Yorkshire Water to repair and maintain the existing Grade II Listed Victorian spillway, keeping it operational for regular water flows and to consider other options for containing the unpredictable volumes of flood water.
