Tour de Yorkshire

Jason gave a speech in Westminster Hall this morning welcoming the news that Yorkshire will host the Grand Départ of the Tour de France in 2014. The final route will be announced in January but Jason has been campaigning hard for the world’s biggest cycle race to come through his constituency. The area has a proud history of hosting cycle races like the Tour of Britain and the Leeds Classic when top cyclists took on the gruelling hill climb up Holme Moss at the top of the Holme Valley.

Jason met the current Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins at the weekend who is looking forward to the 2014 Tour coming to Yorkshire.

It is calculated that Yorkshire will gain £300m in direct revenue from the Tour boosting the local economy. The estimated TV audience of two billion could leave a lasting legacy of tourism benefits.
