Leeds Children’s Heart Surgery Unit

Jason attended the House of Commons Statement by the Secretary of State for Health regarding the Safe and Sustainable Review of Children’s Heart Surgery Units. Jason has been campaigning to save the Leeds unit which is used by families from his constituency. Jason is pleased that the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt accepted the Independent Review Panel’s judgment that the process was flawed and as result has suspended the ‘Safe and Sustainable’ review.

NHS England will report back to the Health Secretary by the end of July on how they intend to proceed.

Jason asked a question supporting the Secretary of State’s view that families just come first and that the new review must be based on the fundamental principal of patient choice, meaning that doctors go where the patients are and not the other way round.
