Jason joined local Conservatives in Kirklees in committing to save libraries across Kirklees and reverse Labour’s plans to decimate the library service across Holme Valley, Colne Valley and Lindley.
Labour’s plans were to close all libraries bar Huddersfield and Dewsbury. This would mean that the libraries in Holmfirth, Honley, Slaithwaite, Marsden, Lindley, Golcar & Meltham would all close. Labour’s plans would also see our mobile library service terminated. A public consultation on these plans has now been initiated.
Conservatives will propose in their alternative budget that all libraries in Kirklees will remain open and that they will work with local communities to develop a more sustainable approach to the service and a multi-use for library buildings. They have also committed to maintain the mobile libraries which serve many of our smaller villages and outlying areas.
