Delivering Security for Working People

Jason was in the House of Commons Chamber to hear Chancellor George Osborne deliver the first Conservative budget since 1996.

The deficit is coming down, jobs are being created, and Jason is pleased that this budget will help deliver security for the people of Holme Valley, Colne Valley and Lindley:

  • A new compulsory National Living Wage for all working people aged 25 and over will be introduced. It will start in April 2016 at £7.20 an hour and will reach £9 by 2020.
  • Fuel Duty has once again been frozen. The typical family will save around £10 when they fill up compared to previous Labour plans on Fuel Duty.
  • The personal allowance will rise from £10,600 to £11,000 from April next year. This is worth £80 to the typical taxpayer, meaning they are paying £905 less than in 2010. 47,587 in the constituency will benefit from the rise.
  • The amount of free childcare will be doubled from 15 hours a week meaning that working parents will be entitled to 30 hours of free childcare a week for 3 and 4 year olds.
  • From 2016 the Employment Allowance will rise 50% to £3,000, cutting the jobs tax for firms.
  • For us here in Yorkshire this Government will help re-balance the economy and build the Northern Powerhouse with talks now in advanced stages to see devolution to our region through directly elected Mayors.

Furthermore as a former RAF officer Jason is pleased that the Chancellor’s budget confirmed that the UK has committed to meet the NATO pledge to spend 2% of our national income on defence. Jason is also pleased that the Battle of Britain Fighter Command Centre will be renovated.
