Jason joined over 450 people at the Clinical Commissioning Group’s Public Consultation Meeting at the John Smith’s Stadium. Hundreds more were left outside. The event was organised by the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) who are proposing the downgrading of our A&E unit at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Emergency care would then be provided over at Halifax.
It was a passionate and angry meeting as the Doctors on the panel were unable to justify their proposals or give straight answers to the questions posed. Jason stated that it was clear that the CCG had already made their minds up and weren’t listening to the public or fellow doctors and clinicians. He urged the CCG to think again and come up with a Plan B that has the confidence of the local people, local doctors and local clinicians.
Following the meeting Jason said “Clearly they have made their minds up and there is no plan B. It’s clear the public have no confidence in the CCG. They are just saying it will all be OK. People were very passionate, as I expected them to be. It is the biggest issue I have known in our community but I am seriously concerned they have already made up their mind. They should consulted on all three options: Huddersfield, Calderdale and both”
Jason will continue to work with local campaigners, Councillors and Members of Parliament from all parties to fight to save A&E at HRI.
