I’m proud to have been your Local Champion for over 10 years now as the Member of Parliament for the Colne and Holme valleys and Lindley.
From 2010-2017 and now again since 2019 I’ve relished the challenge and honour of representing our wonderful community in Westminster.
I may be a rare thing these days in being an MP that lives full time in the constituency, it’s my home too with my parents living up the valley. I don’t have a second home and just stay 2 or 3 nights a week at most in Westminster when required.
Times are tough, I get that, I always fight to give support to those who need it most whether it’s votes on Universal Credit or Free School Meals.
There are positive things happening though with a new A&E under construction at HRI, gigabit broadband being rolled out, the Trans Pennine rail upgrade underway (yes I know we need to get TPE delivering reliable services), investment at our local schools and colleges with a new wing at Greenhead, the University of Huddersfield ready to build a new social sciences centre, our village centres thriving.
Whilst the Labour candidate just wants to win for the Labour Party and to “kick me out”, I will stand again in 2024 to win for our community.
Positive politics putting people first.
