Jason spoke in the House today trying to get clarity from the Health Minister about the new advice for residents in Kirklees.
Jason McCartney MP
My Colne Valley constituency is in Kirklees, now I could ask about how the new travel advice for Kirklees was communicated to my constituents but instead, Mr. Speaker, I just want to clarify three things with the Minister.
Firstly, travel advice - we’re coming up to half term next week, families will be visiting and going on short breaks, should they now cancel those trips?
Secondly, hotels B and B’s, restaurants are getting cancellations. What support will hospitality get?
And finally Mr Speaker, my constituents can see the data, where the hotspots are, when are we going to start using granular data to tackle the outbreaks rather than lumping whole council areas into these advised restrictions?
Nadhim Zahawi MP
Thank you very much Mr Speaker, let me try to take those in reverse. So on the granular data we already, in the vaccination programme, have the capability to be able to see literally by post code area where the uptake is at and that's how we are able to focus our resources to be able to turbo charge the vaccination programme as we have done and will continue to do including in Kirklees.
On pubs and hospitality indoor areas at hospitality venues can continue to serve and as I described earlier, of course serve seated clientele and diners and drinkers.
And of course if families have booked visits to families then they are absolutely able to visit family as long as they follow those social distancing guidelines and that common sense, we need to make sure we are vigilant because this B1617.2 variant is something that is concerning us and we have to bring it under control by turbo charging vaccination, surge testing, isolating and of course genome sequencing.
