Hello, I’m Jason McCartney, Member of Parliament for Colne Valley, Holme Valley and for Lindley. I just thought I’d give a quick update on what me and my team have been up to during the coronavirus crisis.
We are all working from home at the moment, remotely, helping hundreds of constituents with a huge variety of issues. If you do need to contact me and the team, our contact details are just above this video.
I’ve just come off a group Zoom call with fellow backbench MPs, where we have been discussing how parliament is going to return next tuesday, whether it will all be a virtual parliament online or whether there might be some kind of way some of us could actually be back in the House of Commons Chamber. I really do think it is very important we can start questioning government ministers during this crisis, again as soon as possible.
First thing this morning, as I have been for the past few weeks, I had an hours conference call with a cabinet office minister where me and other backbench MP’s and some shadow ministers can actually ask some questions about what the government is doing to support a whole range of people.
I’ve asked questions about supporting the self-employed, supporting business people, supporting frontline NHS staff, supporting people who are working in care homes and that really feeds back to government so that they can change their policies and give the support that’s needed.
I then had an hour with a Foreign Office Minister, I still have dozens of constituents trapped around the world in countries as far afield as Grenada, India, Pakistan, Bali and New Zealand . Me and my team are working very hard to get them home as soon as possible.
I also had an hour long call with the local director of public health from Kirklees Council, yesterday where we discussed support for our frontline NHS staff, help for people working in care homes with PPE and also drive through testing facilities which are due to be setup in the Kirklees Council area.
It really is a busy time and it’s a challenging time for all of us as well
I personally haven't been able to see my partner for over 3 weeks now, she’s safely with her family over in Dewsbury but of course we all are going through this restrictions to try and save lives, of course to protect the NHS and most importantly safe lives.
So thank you for everything that you are doing, thank you for your support, please do get in touch if you need my help and please do stay at home, lets protect the NHS and save lives.
Thank you.
