Jason had an interview with BBC Radio Leeds, you can listen and read along to the excerpts here;
Do you have a message for the Prime Minister?
No absolutely, I think we’ve all been shocked by this news that the Prime Minister has gone into an Intensive Care Unit overnight. He’s obviously been struggling for a few days now with the symptoms of the Coronavirus and he’s been struggling on continuing to lead our nation.
But really shocking news overnight.
I’ve been absolutely inundated with good wishes from local people to pass on. Not only just to Boris the Prime Minister himself, but to Carrie his partner of course who is pregnant at the moment and all of Borris’ family.
I think the whole country, no matter what political leanings somebody might have, I think one thing this crisis has shown us is that we are a compassionate, caring country and I think the whole country now is behind Boris as a human being to pull through, then to get back to doing the job as Prime Minister and leading us through this crisis.
Do you have a word on what our NHS are doing?
Our NHS are doing an absolutely amazing job. I mean I personally have great gratitude for the NHS, last year both my mother and father were very ill. My dad had a quadruple heart bypass at the Yorkshire Heart Centre at the LGI and me and my mum spent many days there watching him recover through an Intensive Care Unit there at the LGI and he had absolutely wonderful care from the doctors, nurses and all the staff and
I’ve been out with all my neighbours in Honley, where I live just near Holmfirth every Thursday evening, clapping the NHS, clapping our key workers. We have so much gratitude for them. There’s a restaurant here in Honley as well, The Punch Tapas Bar, that is providing free meals for our local NHS workers as well. The whole country is behind our NHS, our key workers, our teachers, the people who are doing deliveries, the porters, our police, everyone working so hard
Our whole country is pulling together and that’s what we need and we need our Prime Minister to pull through as we fight this killer virus.
Do you feel confident that the Government can keep the message out there?
It’s really important that we continue to get the message out there - Stay Home, Protect our NHS and Save Lives. We’re coming up to a crucial phase now, we’ve been in this period of restrictions, heavy restrictions now for two weeks and we mustn't undo all the good work that we’ve done. We need to keep thinking about the advice and the guidelines that we’ve been given. Like many countries around the world, we’re learning how to fight this virus, it is a new killer virus, there is no vaccination yet, but by following the government guidelines, by following the advice we can help protect our NHS and save lives and it's’ really important that we follow that guidance to give our wonderful NHS workers a chance of saving as many lives as possible.
